The 2nd Review

Limbo Review

Here is the second review for the week, Limbo:
Limbo was created in 2010 but ported to the PS4 a couple weeks ago. I will be reviewing the gameplay, graphics, and story of this game.
Game Play:
Limbo is a 2D Puzzle Platform Game developed by Playdead and Double Eleven. It is 40 Chapters long and challenges players with unique puzzles. There are just 4 actions that the character has, run and jump; and push and pull. These actions are enough to get you through all 40 chapters, even in one play through. There is actually a PS4 trophy for completing the game in one sitting and not dying more than 5 times. This game will challenge you both physically and mentally. It gave me a run for my money because of the difficult challenges, especially towards the end of the game. Some challenges make you run Indiana Jones style getting chased by boulders, flaming tires, giant factory saws and even a giant spider. Some of the elements of the game will twist and turn making you walk sideways upside down and even the world itself will turn as the environment changes sporadically. You can be crushed, fall down pits, stabbed, drown, shot by machine guns and even get killed by other limbo kids shooting blow darts at you. There are even these brain sucking worms that drop on your head and force you to move in only 1 direction. You would swear this game was made by psycos, demonic entities, or even by our own Kaiba because it can be sadistic. It’s a fun and challenging game that will easily get you hooked by intrigue.
I rate this game a 10/10 for its unique gameplay and fun challenges.

Graphics:
The graphics are unbelievable. Limbo uses black, white and grey scale as its color scheme. It’s exactly what Limbo would be like and I wouldn’t change a thing. Even though the color scheme is all monotones, you can still imagine a full colored game in your head. The graphics bring out your imagination and combined with the environment brings out raw emotion as your play. In fact, if they did this game in color, the game itself would not be as good. Limbo is absolutely perfect with its graphics and color scheme and it really gives you a sense of understanding of what Limbo would really be like if you were trapped there.
I rate this game a 10/10 for its graphics and monotone color scheme.

Story:
The story of this game is simple; get to your sister because you are unaware of her fate. That is it. You really don’t know why you’re in Limbo or the events that lead you to Limbo. There is a very minimal story to this game and it opens up so many questions and what if scenarios. You have to kind of draw your own conclusion as to why you’re in Limbo as you traverse the depths of despair. I will not spoil any endings for you, so I will leave that part out.
I rate this game 9/10 due to its lack of story but at the same time, the imagination and interpretation of the events that transpire to help make up your own story.

Overall I rate this game a 9.6 due to its challenging gameplay and outstanding graphics combined with a mysterious story.
