EA buys out Titanfall Dev Respawn for $400 Million

EA is back on the move snatching up companies. Shortly after they took over Visceral and shut them down, EA has gone out and bought another independent studio, Respawn Entertainment. the developer of the Titanfall franchise, Respawn was snatched up for a reported $455 million, a number which includes cash, equity and performance milestone payments.

Founded in 2010 by Call Of Duty designers Jason West & Vince Zampella, Respawn quickly grew in fame when they released Titanfall, an Xbox exclusive back in 2014 and then Titanfall 2 on multiple platforms. However, Titanfall 2 did not sell a ton of copies but that was because they released the game squarely between COD: Infinite Warfare and Battlefield 1. Titanfall 2 did still have a great story and online component (read our review here), EA did announce last year that Respawn was creating a Star Wars action game.

Respawn was currently working on the third Titanfall and an unknown virtual reality game for the Oculus Rift. Hopefully Respawn does not meet the same fate as Visceral Games.
