“I waited how long for this?”
It hasn’t been a great year for Destiny and the folks at Bungie and with the absolute failure of Curse of Osiris, Warmind needed to be the saving grace of this franchise or at least quell the fanbase until their “big” expansion drops in September/October; so the question is… does it do the job?
If you haven’t been following what Warmind is about, Warmind has your guardian returning to Mars, more specifically the Hellas Basin at the North Pole to investigate Rasputin, the warmind that was on Earth but is somehow now on Mars at the Braytech facility. You meet up with Ana Bray, a fellow guardian and scientist of Braytech who tells you the Hive (who are now just the Frozen Hive) are trying to infiltrate and destroy Rasputin.
Sounds fun doesn’t it? Unfortunately the concept sounds better than the execution. Although it is better than Curse of Osiris, Warmind is still lacking in certain areas, more-so in the story department. Bungie decided to re-write alot of what was in the original Destiny had done and decided to fill it with “don’t knows” and “it didn’t happen that way” by saying Rasputin was “sleeping” when in fact in mission 3 of Destiny’s vanilla campaign, you woke up Rasputin. Other instances were the disassociation between Zavala and Ana to the point they referred to her as an outcast of the order.
Other issues that i’ve found are with the loot. You would think for a loot-n-shoot there would be lots and lots of new stuff to collect, however that is not the case. In our previous article, Bungie has brought back more D1 exotics and only a handful of new exotics to collect. Although, there is one bright spot for the new DLC, there are some new quests for finding gear and guns that does extend the endgame by a bit.
But this isn’t enough to sway the fact that Bungie did not bring something to the table that says they are making the right moves forward, instead they keep the song of deceit and lies alive and well. To that end, I give Warmind a 4 out of 10.
Final Score
No… Just No.
