By now you have heard about Far Cry 5, a new FPS from Ubisoft Montreal in the Far Cry franchise. The 6th entry in the series, (Far Cry Primal does count), Far Cry 5 is set in the fictional Hope County, Montana, where a radical preacher by the name of Joseph Seed has risen up to rule the region. Seed, and his established congregation called Eden’s Gate have taken over Hope County and under Seed’s command, they have taken the county with the use of coercion and violence to convert the people to their ideals.
With this intimidation, Seed and Eden’s Gate have been keeping the federal government from showing up but you take on the role of a sheriff’s deputy who has been sent into Hope County to arrest Seed and dismantle his army. Known as “The Father”, Seed maintains control over the county with the help of his family, known as “The Heralds”.
- Jacob is a former military soldier that oversees the armed forces
- John is a lawyer that helps to maintain the land they control
- Faith uses her pacifist attitude to help keep the people in check and believing in her older brother
As with any Far Cry game, you have those who are opposing the family,
- Pastor Jerome, a local church leader who has watched his people flee to Eden’s Gate
- Mary May, a bartender whose father was killed by the cult
- Nick Rye, a cropduster pilot that wants to eliminate the cult for a better future
This entry is a little different than the normal Far Cry entry of being in an exotic land taking down a ruthless dictator for a more local setting that deals with the obsession of people that blindly follow evil people. This is also something of a political move for the studio as the US is experiencing somewhat of the same thing. Far Cry 5 is set to release in February 2018 and is available for preorder at your favorite retailer. For those that haven’t seen the premiere trailer, check it out below.
