Folk singer/songwriter Dion DiMucci is suing Bethesda over a Fallout 4 commercial that contains what he calls a “repugnant and morally indefensible images”.
DiMucci said it “featured repeated homicides in a dark, dystopian landscape, where violence is glorified as sport.” His feels that his image was damaged as a result. But the true result is that his music was introduced to a new genre of younger people. This is most likely resulting in an uptick in sales and exposure for this artist. He should of been honored to be part of this storied video game franchise.
“The killings and physical violence were not to protect innocent life, but instead were repugnant and morally indefensible images designed to appeal to young consumers,” the lawsuit reads.
After reviewing the actual commercial, everyone is thoroughly confused. The only killing that is visible is of a Mole Rat. There is little violence in the commercial, and even less blood. We break down the commercial even more:
The vid broken down, section by section:
- Starts out with a cool robot (mr.handy), beautiful town.
- Atomic explosion happens.
- Vault dweller leaves vault.
- He “wanders” the commonwealth with a cute dog named Dogmeat.
- He kills a Mole Rat while investigating a deserted town.
- Super mutants attack him and he returns fire, which no killing or blood is visible.
- Finds power armor and it has a cut scene of him getting attached to it.
- The vault dweller than has a “hero pose” with the Armor, mimicking the many covers and posters of the Fallout franchise.
- Ending scene of him walking with Dogmeat, next to a building with the sign of the Fallout boy giving a thumbs up.
This was released in the summer of 2015. The game came out October 15, 2015. Over two years ago. To think Bethesda / Zenimax did not contact his PR or Rep company is absurd. I highly doubt they would contact him directly.
I am not one to bad mouth anyone, but this guy is quite possibly mentally slow or has some sort of learning disability. Nothing in this lawsuit makes sense. Not the lawsuit, not the amount of the lawsuit and not the wild verbose claims he has.
But it did give me something to write about. So take that for what it’s worth. Watch the trailer for yourself.
