For many people that never new this game existed, Epic Game’s free to play online MOBA style game Paragon is set to shutdown on April 26. Just this past week, Epic Games took to their website and delivered a heart felt letter to fans of the game. The team released this statement on their website:
After careful consideration, and many difficult internal debates, we feel there isn’t a clear path for us to grow Paragon into a MOBA that retains enough players to be sustainable.
it continues to say:
It’s with heavy hearts we’ve decided to close down Paragon.
This statement comes on the heels of a brutal post on Reddit stating that some of the team that was working on Paragon had been shifted over to Fortnite, their new(er) free to play battle royale game. Although they are still working on getting the right formula, Fornite has passed 40 million downloads across the PS4, Xbox One & PC which has a peak of 2 million concurrent users. Another interesting part of this move is that Paragon had been dwindling in players for about a year before Fortnite had launched which the Paragon dev stated:
there was not a clear path to grow Paragon into a MOBA that retains enough players to be sustainable
As of today, Paragon will continue to keep the game running until the April 26 deadline, but as the player base continues to decrease, matchmaking times and the overall quality of the game will continue to fall as well and quotes:
We didn’t execute well enough to deliver on the promise of Paragon. We have failed you — despite the team’s incredibly hard work — and we’re sorry. To try to make this right, Epic id offering a full refund to every Paragon player for every purchase on any platform. This refund will come directly from Epic rather than your platform provider.
They continue:
Thank you for joining us on this journey and for your dedication to Paragon.
There is a silver lining to this, Epic games did state that they will be giving players a full refund for any in game purchases they made. All you need to do to request your refund, follow these steps:
