As of today, Microsoft Studios has officially cancelled Scalebound. First debuting at E3 back in 2014, Scalebound was supposed to released for holiday 2016 but was quickly delayed at E3 in 2016 to a 2017 release date by stating “in order to deliver on our ambitious vision and ensure that Scalebound lives up to expectations.“.
It is interesting that this would come out now as Microsoft does not have the amount of exclusives that Playstation has coming out but most interesting enough is the fact that in a statement by Microsoft Studios:
“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences.”
Kind of leads to the conclusion that there may have been more delays coming and unlike Sony’s patience (just look at The Last Guardian), Microsoft Studio’s is not taking any chances with more delays. Hopefully this doesn’t mean that Platinum Games won’t work with Microsoft in the future but maybe they will be able to take Scalebound over to Sony and release it as a PS4 exclusive.
