The Division: Underground Review

“What lies beneath”
The Division’s 1st DLC titled Underground is one that brings a new dimension to the game. But first a little about it. Underground continues the fight after your agent(s) take down The Cleaners, The Rikers and The LMB, you go after Dr. Gordon Amherst and Aaron Keener to stop him once and for all, however Underground places you in a situation that not all the factions are gone. In fact, they moved into the infinite tunnels of NYC’s subway and sewer system where you are tasked to go down and finally rid NYC of the menace.

What’s interesting about Underground is the way you play, no its not an open world like the city streets, Underground is a unique concept of randomly generated maps. This means that every-time you start what they call an Operation, which sounds odd but with the lack of a general story on what you are doing it will make sense. With the DLC being random in its missions, these Operations allow you to set the difficulty and some modifiers to increase its “risk, reward” system. You are allowed to add a few modifiers to increase the difficulty of the Operation really adds alot of intriguing twists which add a lot to re-playability to this mode.

With Underground, you also gain access to new weapons and gear which add options for those that have gotten tired with their current line-up. You also gain access to the brand new incursion, Draon’s Nest, which sets up The Cleaners who have setup shop in Hell’s Kitchen and you are tasked to go in and stop them.

The only downside I’ve noticed with Underground is the lack of unique mission types you get when you start your Operation. But even with this minor setback, Underground is still a great new twist for those looking for a sense of ‘new’ that most MMO players strive to find. I give The Division: Underground DLC a 7.5 out of 10.
