With the new God of War not scheduled to be released till the end of April, there has been a slew of new and very juicy information that has come out recently and we are going to take a look at a few things that you need to know about what is new with the god killing franchise.
What’s Going On?
If you remember playing the last entry, Kratos killed off a majority of the Greek gods and threw the known world into utter Chaos. I have eluded to the idea that in an effort to bring balance back to the known Greek world, the remaining gods chucked Kratos into another time. Now, stuck in Norse Mythology, Kratos will visit:
- Alfheim
- Asgard
- Jotunheim
- Midgard
- Muspelheim
- Nidavellir
- Niflheim
- Svartalfheim
- and Vanaheim
However, the Norse Gods will be more down to earth when comparing to the over the top lifestyle of the Greek Gods.
How Does It Play?
Long since been removed from Greece, Kratos no longer has his signature Blades of Chaos (or Blades of Athena) and now sports a nifty Axe and Shield. According to the game directors, the switch was to bring combat closer and give the player’s a better sense of strategy, rather than button mashing and keeping everything at bay. However, you can throw the Axe as well as calling in his son Atreus as a supporting character.
Also is gone the multiple sets of powers, your Axe is now imbued with a Frost power and his son is sporting an electric ability. You will still have access to his iconic Spartan rage, which is triggered after prolonged combat and when activated, allows you to rain down a savage flurry of blows.
Is There Magic?
Yes. The magic you can obtain is now in the form of Ruin Stones that you can imbue your Axe with and tie them to ether your light or heavy attack. In fact, the language on the runes themselves is called Elder Futhark, which is one of the oldest forms of Nordic runes and has been described to be the base language of the game.
So What’s Different?
Other than the setting and a new signature weapon, Kratos is now a father. Forever gone is the version of Kratos where he is permanently furious and constantly yelling, he now has to embrace fatherhood to teach his son, Atreus who he is (because he is technically part god) and also struggle on what it means to be a father again.
Are There Any Collectible Weapons, Skins?
Yes. According to game director Cory Barlog, the game will feature some crafting elements (armor most likely) along with some different skins and shield colors as you progress through the game.
How Long Is The Game?
Currently God of War is coming in around 25 – 35 hours to complete totally. Which if you don’t count multiple play-throughs, will be the longest God of War game to date. Hopefully there will be tons of awesome collectibles to find along your travels.
With some time before the new God of War comes out, more information will be hopefully revealed and we will update you when possible.
